I'm not 100% sure how this helps the original issue #1244 as this new commit won't be the branch tip for long.

Does this actually fix anything in lwip we care about?

You're right, it doesn't. But I can't reproduce their problem. Master is better than nothing I guess.

I'm not sure this usefully solves any problem, and we don't seem to be picking up anything new from lwip for this release, so closing
