I dont actually know how to post this.
Hi everyone, I'm losing my mind with Chiaki-ng on my Steam Deck (LCD model) and I need a miracle.
Until last night, the stream was buttery smooth at a locked 60 fps. Today, out of nowhere, the framerate drops and gets stuck between 53 and 55 fps, accompanied by severe, constant stuttering. The kicker is that it does this even while sitting idle on the PS5 dashboard, with no games running.
My setup:
PS5: Hardwired via LAN. It's completely "headless" (NO HDMI cable plugged in for days, just power and ethernet).
Network: Home router on the 5GHz band (I tested the Deck sitting right next to the router). I even tried my phone's hotspot to rule out the router entirely, same exact result. Zero background downloads on both the console and the Deck. No Bluetooth active.
To save everyone time and avoid the basic troubleshooting steps, here is the exact list of everything I've already done/tested with zero success:
STEAMOS SIDE:
Completely disabled the Framerate Limit and Refresh Rate (set to OFF, though I also tried forcing them to 60).
Enabled "Allow Tearing".
Disabled Wi-Fi Power Management.
Changed the Wi-Fi backend: Forced wpa_supplicant via terminal to bypass iwd dropouts.
Turned off the Performance Overlay completely so it doesn't mess with Gamescope.
CHIAKI-NG SIDE:
Clean uninstall wiping user data (flatpak uninstall --delete-data) followed by a fresh reinstall.
Drastically lowered Bitrate to 10,000 (10 Mbps) and resolution to 720p. The network is completely unstressed, receiving at 1.25 MB/s, but the stutter remains.
Increased Audio Buffer Size to 100ms.
Enabled Fast IDR Frame on FEC Failure.
Tested both Hardware Decoders: vaapi and vulkan.
Changed video codec, forcing H264 instead of H265.
Nothing works. The frame pacing is completely messed up. The network is sending packets effortlessly, but the Deck seems unable to push them to the screen without chopping off 5-6 frames a second and stuttering badly.
Is there some hidden variable, config file, or bug that triggered overnight that I'm missing? Any ideas or technical insights are welcome, I've completely run out of options. Thanks.
And I already tried to pull on a monitor to play a little bit, if that was a possible cause.
@fededalmagro can you please post logs. They are in the directory listed when open settings->general tab in chiaki-ng
I have the same issue my side on the standard LCD steam deck, tried multiple solutions but it was working fine before this latest version
Attached is one of my logs , hopefully it attached

@streetpea
Apologies on all the duplicates
@streetpea These were just tests i was doing tryin to see if i could fix it. If younneed a longer session of pure gameplay i Will provide that to you. Im not very practical of these things sadly
It might not help much, but I had the same stuttering issue on the Steam Deck OLED, and I rolled back to version 1.9. Everything’s fine now. Something broke in 1.10.
@shionisosu thought of that but I like the new streaming quality, I was even thinking I hope this update does not break anything and the stuttering started.
@fededalmagro @randstonegfp-wq it seems like the fps reports 74 fps on steam deck oled due to frame interpolation with the new version and 59-61 fps with the old version and I don't see a bunch of stuttering
Here are some videos with the comparison of 199 and 1100: https://drive.proton.me/urls/WZBQXZN844#kAhwkjZXOgis. Can you please post some videos so I can see what you mean by stuttering as well as a longer log from a run that exhibits stuttering so I can fix this?
@fededalmagro @randstonegfp-wq I think the 55 fps thing is a round error with the display timing logic I added for vsync because I'm using a qtimer that uses nearest ms. I'm not seeing the issue on my side because my display is 90Hz not 60. Let me make a new build and see if it fixes your issue.
@shionisosu where did you get an older version or how did you roll back.
@streetpea appreciated the fact that 3 people are having the issue means there is something bigger wrong here. Hope you manage as this is a great product and the streaming quality is pretty great with the new update so would be great to have it at a smooth refresh rate.
Streetpea told me how to ;-) https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/LF0RPdce6d
@shionisosu took bit of figuring put from my side as I am not much of a Linux user but downgraded. Appreciate the assistance
I came here because of the exact same issue on steam deck oled. Downgrading helped, thanks.
Let me know if I can help somehow.
I've tried the latest release 1.10 on MacOS Apple Silicon and it didn't connect to PSN, so I've tried latest weekly build but I had the same stuttering issues, so maybe it is not related only to SteamDeck

Steam literally wont let me export the clips for some reazon, sorry but i had to send you only the Logs. The issue was still the same, 53 to 55ish fps with stuttering. Everythink works fine in 1.9.9. i thought i had already posted this notes but i dont see them, Sorry if i have send this twice in that case
Thanks @fededalmagro I was able to reproduce the issue with fps and fix it so it should now give 60. I'll post a new build for you to test soon
@Askoth @fededalmagro @randstonegfp-wq and others please try the latest weekly build it should now report refresh rate fps with frame mixing on and stream fps with frame mixing off
To try out the appimage first download it. Then, make it executable with chmod +x then path_to_file where path_to_file is the actual file path (you can get this by dragging and dropping the file into the terminal from your downloads folder or wherever) in terminal or click the make executable checkmark in Dolphin ("Finder"). Then, open the appimage to create the conf file. Then copy settings from the flatpak with
cp ~/.var/app/io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck/config/Chiaki/Chiaki.conf ~/.config/Chiaki/Chiaki.confin terminal to overwrite the file with your old settings. Then on the main menu of the app click to create a steam shortcut and it will create a new non steam game for you (name it something like chiaki-ng appimage) and then launch that one from game mode. Thanks for the instructions. I will be able to try within a few hours. Timezone issues
I played the appimage. I think it is slightly better? I felt some input lag also, I think I didn't feel input lag in the 10.x version.
I played the game with 9.X after that to be sure and 9.X is amazingly better.
@Askoth can you try using the v1.9.9 appimage so you're comparing apples to apples and also try turning frame mixing off in settings in v1.10.0. Also can you turn stream stats on in audio/WiFi? Since you're on steam deck you can also turn on the fps counter in game mode.
I'm testing in desktop mode to be able to talk to you and download the app images :)
1.9.9: 11.6 mpbs. AppImage performance is insanely smooth as the 1.9.9 flatpak
1.10.weekly: 11.6mpbs too... it I think it got a bit better with frame mixing off but I still felt the suttering and a bit of input lag.
On docked mode, the frametime graph has higher highs and lower lows for 1.10.weekly. Specially when I see more stuttering.
@Askoth are you seeing dropped packets when the stuttering occurs
I mean in the stats overlay is it saying there is dropped franes when you turn the stream stats on in audio/wifi when playing?
packet lost, dropped frames and lost frames are always 0
Hmm ok .. I'm only seeing that happen when dropped frames increasing from 0 ... what is your avg queue depth?
I sent you a clip in discord from a part I saw stuttering a lot... for some reason, the recording doesn't seem to have the stuttering at all.... It was recorded using the steam deck recording feature in handheld mode.
avg queue depth was 1 at the time
Did you compare the frame time graph to 1.9.9? for me at least the frame time graph is slightly smoother on the latest version I gave than v1.9.9. Would be good if you can confirm yours is same or different
for me it was the opposite... I will try to get some pictures with my phone. I thought it would show up on screenshots but it didn't...
Hi @streetpea I have the same issue. This is the complete logfile that I got in latest version 1.10
chiaki_session_2026-04-11_12-12-49-270270.log
I pretty much have the exact same issue as OP on 1.10. Reverting to 1.9.9 solved all issues but hope this gets fixed in a future update!
Throwing my hat in the ring that I'm also experiencing some issues with the video stream not being entirely smooth, however I'm not on a Steam Deck, but I am using the Flatpak version.
Downgrading to 1.9.9 I can pretty much immediately feel the difference, stream video appears to be much smoother.
The other big difference is my reported frame rate appears to be quite high. he reported frame rate in MangoHud appears to be 60 in 1.9.9 and 140+ FPS in 1.10.0. I first thought this was related to Vsync in some way but disabling Vsync appears to still keep the framerate at 140+ FPS.
I'm unsure if this is MangoHud being strange with how chiaki-ng works or not but it seems like 1.10.0 has introduced some kind of "interpolation" that might explain why things feel less smooth?
Can you tell me exactly what you did to roll back pls? The commands linked dont seem to work.
Easy way in command line:
Get the current version all the other versions
Switch with this, using the commit you found in the parent:
(the commit 28924b53baabbc451de6b0cf3cd5b2ba2505d62726ec1fc16d4184458a026f09 is actually the version you are asking here).
There is a GUI program named "Warehouse" installable from Flatpak, that ease flatpak managements. In Warehouse, you can click on Chiaki, then on "Version" and you will have a menu to browse the versions and revert to the one you want in one click.
Although I'm not sure I have the same problem as OP, I found that playing through chiaki-ng is not enjoyable at the moment:
I tried reverting to a few previous versions, without being able to notice a difference.
This is not a network issue, I tried with a direct cable and this did not help.
I tried to set the laptop power management to Performance, nothing improved. Tried changing framerate, resolution, rendering, one setting after another, no clue there.
This is hard to debug, I'd be happy to provide more detailed information, but I don't really know what to share to be honest, I'm curious to know if I'm the only person with the issue?
In addition to previous tests, I did the following without improvements:
@rapenne-s please try the latest weekly build and see if it improves things for you
A gave a try on a laptop, using both flatpak and the appimage from https://github.com/streetpea/chiaki-ng/releases/tag/weekly-canary-release-f5fe3523071dc48d28a37de04d3a81d9c9d32331
I can't report improvements related to input lag or video delay.
Would it be useful if I record a short video to show the small video lag?
The worse is the input "lag", it's like some events are lost and in some games using small steps using the d-pad (in opposition to pushing a stick) or using the buttons, this is highly noticeable has some press on the controller are not forwarded.
With the latest build:
I tried the original chiaki on the same devices, same issues.
This seems to indicate it's unrelated to chiaki-ng / chiaki itself?
I can't downgrade a PS5 update AFAIK, but I can try an older Linux system with the appimage (the flatpak would pull in a recent stack, I don't want to fight reverting many flatpak components, not sure it's easy to do)
This issue is stale because it has been open for 90 days with no activity.
@rapenne-s Is this issue still reproducible in chiaki-ng v1.10.0 on latest stable SteamOS release, paired with latest PS5 firmware?
Using chiaki-ng v1.10.0 installed from flatpak, on a freshly updated SteamOS on deck, "Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors" works fine, this game has been a good benchmark because it's fast paced, animation are very fast and it's highly input lag sensitive.
I tried on a desktop system using same software, it worked as good.
I'm not sure I had the exact same problem as OP though, I found the PS5 streaming experience to be rather bad even on local ethernet due to an annoying delay (not huge, but just enough that it is not enjoyable). After some experimentations, this did not seem chiaki-ng specific as I tried the official app on MacOS, and some paid app on iOS, which behave the same as chiaki-ng on deck or desktop.
Surprisingly, I didn't had any trouble today.
@rapenne-s Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback! I'll give v1.10.0 on my Deck a try then.
It could be useful for someone, but i faced the same issues with statters, and I've downgraded to v1.9.9, and now everything works great.
