I've had this lurking on my hard-drive for ages (see https://github.com/raspberrypi/pico-feedback/issues/132 ) and now seemed like a good time to dig them out and polish it up.
Hopefully I've set up this PR correctly so that it should slide into #624 when merged.

@kilograham Feel free to make these changes directly in #624 yourself if that's easier, and feel free to give these functions "better" names if you'd like.
And I've not tested this, but it was written using section "3.4.2. JMP" of the RP2040 datasheet as reference.
