Debian/Ubuntu ship NetBSD's portable 'makefs' as the 'makefs' apt
package. It writes UFS2 (FFSv2) images natively on Linux — no nested
virt, no VirtualBox, no FreeBSD VM. Replaces the entire vmactions
step with:
apt-get install -y makefs
makefs -t ffs -o version=2,bsize=32768,fsize=4096 -s 64m \
download0.dat download0/
The on-disk geometry matches exactly what 'newfs -O 2 -b 32768 -f 4096'
inside the FreeBSD VM was producing — UFS2 superblock at the standard
65536-byte offset, 32 KB block / 4 KB fragment, same boot sector
reserve. Linux's in-kernel UFS driver can't mount the result (Linux's
UFS2 support is read-only and chokes on FreeBSD flavor quirks anyway),
but the PS5 reads it as a plain UFS2 mount — same as it would have
done with the VM-built image.
Also: drop the FreeBSD-VM-only and continue-on-error notes from
the README + workflow comments, since the job is now expected to
succeed unconditionally.

How to use

- Update IPs in splash.html and app.js.
- Upload
splash.htmlusing ftp into../download0/cache/splash_screen/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cueW91dHViZS5jb20vdHY=. - Run
node server.jscommand (require node.js + dependencies).
Forgejo Actions build (this fork only)
This fork at git.etawen.dev/mia/Y2JB2 adds .forgejo/workflows/build.yml,
which on every push fetches the latest kexp.bin (from
ufm42/kexp releases) and elfldr.elf (from
ps5-payload-dev/elfldr releases)
and produces:
Y2JB2-server-bundle.zip—public/+server.js+splash.html+ a generatedpackage.json. Drop in,npm install, npm start. Matches the "How to use" flow above with the two payload binaries already staged.download0.dat— 64 MB UFS2 image for the offline mount-mode (PS5 mounts the .dat directly, no Node server needed). Built natively on Linux via NetBSD's portablemakefs— no FreeBSD VM required.
